Storms move into Germany on Saturday


Friday
Hot across west and southern Europe, with temperatures widely into the upper 30s Celsius, and some spots in southwest France, Iberia, Italy and Greece topping 40C. Dry and sunny across Spain and Portugal although there may be more in the way of cloud across northwestern regions. Dry across the western Mediterranean, but some scattered showers developing over ltaly. Dry and sunny across Turkey and Greece.
Largely dry across France although thundery downpours are likely to pop up across northern and central areas later on in the day and overnight. Dry and fine across the Low Countries and Germany, also Poland although northeastern parts hanging on to some rain. Thundery showers across Austria and Switzerland once again today and these will extend into Croatia and Hungary.
High pressure builds into southern and western parts of Norway and Sweden, largely dry and fine conditions here. Further north, a mix of sunny spells and showers. Finland will see largely cloudy skies with patchy light rain about but many places staying dry. Rain should clear to the east across the Baltic States and winds should gradually ease.


Saturday
High pressure lies to the west of Europe, and very high temperatures will be maintained across much of Iberia and the Mediterranean. Topping 40C in southern Spain, although a fresh breeze around Biscay coasts will keep things only at 20 to 23C here.
Northern France will be fresher than Friday as a cold front passes eastwards. This will trigger intense thunderstorms for western parts of Germany as the heat of the day develops, widely topping 30C, the storms tracking eastwards into the evening. Thundery too for the Alps and northern Italy. Eastern central Europe will be mainly dry, from Poland to the Czech Republic and Hungary, highs 25 to 28C. Local thundery showers for the Balkan states and mainland Greece, although the eastern Mediterranean and Aegean islands will be dry.
Warm and sunny for much of Scandinavia, up to 28C in southern Sweden. A risk of thundery rain moving in from the west to Norway and Denmark. Local thundery bursts also forming toward the north of Sweden and Finland.
