Slack pressure results in a frosty but largely dry day for many places. Some sunshine in the south and east. A weak front affects Scotland and Ireland, giving cloudier skies and patchy rain or hill snow, locally persistent. A few bands of showers over the Irish Sea may give frequent rain to Pembrokeshire also southwest England. A northwesterly breeze will strengthen in the west, otherwise winds will be light. Temperatures only 3 to 5C for most, locally 9 or 10C in the south-west.

Sunday night
Partly cloudy skies for England and Wales with a little drizzle or brief snow flurries as a weak cold front passes southeastwards. Clearances forming from the north and west, although high cloud will spill into western Scotland and Ireland as southwesterly winds strengthen higher. Lowest temperatures dependent on cloud breaks, widely 0 to 3C, but dipping to -2C or below where skies clear, locally lower in Scotland, -5C or lower is possible in some glens.

Monday
A frosty start for much of England and Wales. Staying dry across the south and south-east during daylight hours. Fronts moving in from the north-west bring rain and briefly milder air to Ireland, Scotland and northern England. Snow confined to the higher hills. Into the night, colder air returns, with snow falling to lower levels in the north. West to southwesterly winds will strengthen, to gale force around western coasts. Temperature rising slowly to 4 to 7C, mildest west.

Tuesday
A cold front passes southeastwards in the early hours, giving a spell of rain to southern England, but clearing in the morning. Much colder air follows, sweeping across the entire country into Tuesday daytime. Clusters of heavy snow and hail showers spreading inland across the north and west of Britain and Ireland from the northwest on a stiff breeze. Local significant accumulations of snow are possible. Some sunshine, best in central-southern England. Highs 1 to 5C.
