Wet in the southwest

Friday
An ongoing complex pattern continues on Friday with low pressure generally to the southwest and a ridge of high pressure trying to build in the northeast. A showery day for western areas; drier but still cloudy in the east. Some heavier bursts of rain for Wales and eastern Ireland through the morning. Through the afternoon showers will continue in the far northeast of Scotland, eastern Ireland and over southwestern parts of England and into Wales. The best of any brightness is likely to develop over northeastern parts of England and Scotland. High temperatures at 8 to 11C, though 12 to 14C is possible for pockets of southwestern Scotland, northwest England, the East Midlands and the southeast.


Friday Night
Some heavy bursts of rain will continue in the southwest and over southern parts of Ireland overnight. In the northeast, a band of rain will sink southwestward into mainland Scotland where it will fall as snow over the Highlands and Grampians. Elsewhere, a dry but mostly cloudy night though parts of the West Midlands and northwest England could see clearer skies for a time. Overnight lows falling to freezing or slightly below over Wales, the north of England and western Scotland. Elsewhere lows of 2 to 6C are expected.


Saturday
An easterly airflow on Saturday will bring a mostly overcast day for the UK and Ireland. A band of showers will ease southwestward across Scotland becoming increasingly fragmented and patchy as it reaches central and western Scotland. Showers continuing in the southwest and over southern Ireland which may turn into heavy bursts of rain through the late afternoon and evening for the West Country. Staying mostly dry for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Highs at 7 to 14C.


Sunday
The easterly airflow seems set to continue through Sunday. A band of rain will move southwestward through central and southern parts of England and Wales through the day. Scattered showers will affect northern England and the northern half of Ireland through the early afternoon. It will be a mostly dry day for Scotland and the best of the sunshine will be found across southern Scotland and the north of England. High temperatures at 7 to 13C.
