Tuesday
Lower pressure drifts south on Tuesday bringing largely cloudier skies and patchy outbreaks of rain across the UK and Ireland. The rain could get locally heavy for a time in the afternoon. Conditions should improve across northern and western areas of Ireland and Scotland through the day. Where it is dry there will be broken cloud and some bright spells, the best of these in the far south and southeast of England where the last of the relatively warmer air will cling on. Highs at 15 or 16C in southern England, generally between 9 and 13C elsewhere.

Tuesday Night
A chilly northeasterly flow sets up as the area of low pressure continues to sink southwards overnight. Heavy showers or even longer spells of rain are expected more across central and southern parts of England as well as Wales. A scattering of lighter showers further north but plenty of dry periods here too. Some possible frost patches in the north of Scotland where the cloud clears for longest but generally minimum temperatures should remain above zero with lows at 1 to 4C.

Wednesday
Some frost expected to start the day on Wednesday for parts of Scotland. Showers will push in onto eastern areas mainly but are expected to develop further west, these turning wintry over the higher ground across Scotland and the Pennines. Central and southern regions of England as well as Wales will see thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain for much of the day with a reasonably brisk and chilly northeasterly wind. A cool day for all with highs at just 7 to 12C.

Thursday
A chilly north-easterly flow continues through Thursday with a frost and ice risk across rural areas in particular expected first thing. A possible wet and cloudy start to the southeast corner of England but the rain here will soon clear off towards the near continent. Elsewhere, scattered showers will develop in places, some of these wintry over the hills in the north, but there will be plenty of dry weather too with sunny spells about. Staying cool with highs between 7 and 11C.
