Rain & snow
Cold for all

Friday
An area of low pressure centred over the southern UK dominates conditions over the UK and Ireland on Saturday as bands of rain, sleet and snow rotate around the centre of the system. Most of the snow will fall over higher ground in eastern Scotland and in the north of England though there could be a few flakes to lower levels. Hilltops in Wales and the southwest of England will also see some snow as will the Wicklow Mountains and Macgillicuddy's Reeks in Ireland. The heaviest rain will be over the north of England and Scotland through the morning, this then rotates over Northern Ireland, Ireland, Wales and southwest England during the afternoon. Some bright spells will develop in between the rain and showers. Highs at a cold 3 to 7C.

Friday night
Low pressure drifts south through the night from Friday into Saturday though outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow continue to affect northern and western parts of the UK and Ireland. A drier night for much of central and eastern England and southern Scotland with some clear spells developing here. Breezy to the southwest with overnight lows at -1 to 4C for most, 6 or 7C in the west of Ireland.

Saturday
The area of low pressure remains over the south of the UK through Saturday. This brings another cold day. Plenty of cloud and periods of rain across much of eastern and southern Scotland as well as parts of northeast England. Further areas of rain and showers affects Ireland and the far south and southwest of England. Snow affects the Grampians with snow showers affecting northern Scotland too. A cold day with highs at 6 or 7C along eastern coasts, nearer 3 to 5C in the west.

Sunday
Pressure is expected to be staying low through Sunday. This brings cloud and periods of rain to eastern England, most of this fairly showery in nature. An area of more persistent rain in northern England and Scotland, this perhaps heavy in the east. Drier through central and southern England and Wales. Some showers in eastern Ireland but drier in the west. Note confidence in the details is low. Highs at 4 to 7C.
