Low pressure and a slow-moving front affects central-southern Britain. Wet and cold in a swathe from south-west to north-east across England & Wales. The area of rain will drift slowly south-eastwards, with some heavy and persistent falls. The far south-east stays largely dry until afternoon. Brisk northerly winds. Scotland, Northern Ireland & northern England will be dry with sunny spells. A few showers around coasts. Highs 14 to 16C south-east, 10 to 12C north. Just 6 to 9C in rain.

Saturday night
The remnants of rain in the south-east will clear overnight. A strong northerly wind will affect southern England, particularly near exposed coasts. High pressure builds from the north-west, allowing skies to widely clear. Some fog patches forming in central England & Wales, perhaps also the south-west where winds drop light. Chilly with slight frost in rural areas. Some rain may return to north-west Scotland as southwesterly winds strengthen. Lows 0 to 5C, or 6 to 9C south-east.

Sunday
A ridge of high pressure topples across Britain and Ireland, bringing a fair day to many places with good sunny spells. A fresh north-easterly wind will affect English Channel coasts, easing through the day. Meanwhile, a strong south-westerly will affect the north & west of Britain & Ireland, reaching gale force some coasts and over the hills. Rain moves into western Scotland, soon setting in and giving prolonged heavy falls over the West Highlands. Highs 10 to 15C.

Monday
A south-westerly pattern influences the British Isles, bringing milder air back across the country. A lot of low cloud around western coasts and hills, with rain or drizzle, most persistent in western Scotland, also the north-west of Ireland. Small amounts of rain for eastern Scotland. Staying dry for the Midlands, south and east of England. Breezy for all, possible gales locally in the north-west, gusty around hills. Highs 12 to 17C, warmest in eastern districts.
