Windy and cold
Snow and hail showers

Saturday
A cold and blustery day. Frequent snow and hail showers around western coasts - snow often falling to low levels, and accumulating over the hills. Risk of isolated thunder near the coast. A few showers moving well inland, but central & eastern areas will be mainly dry with good amounts of sunshine. Brisk west to northwesterly winds, with squally gusts around showers - gales in northern Scotland. Highs 4 to 7C, but feeling sub-zero.

Saturday night
Cold north-westerly winds will continue into the night. Further heavy showers will move inland from western coasts, locally clustering together to give frequent snow and hail, which may settle to low levels. Persistent snow is possible in north-east Scotland. Some clear spells, mainly in eastern regions. Risk of icy patches following showers. Temperatures 0 to 3C, but locally below freezing where sheltered, mainly in Scottish glens.

Sunday
Chilly again. Showers will feed inland from western coasts, and may be locally frequent, but tending to fade as a brief ridge of high pressure builds from the west. Fairly cloudy skies, with some sunshine, best toward the east. Snow over the hills, and possible hail. Generally dry in central and south-eastern Britain. Rain develops for the north-west by evening. Breezy and cool, the wind easing a little. Highs 4 to 8C, lifting slightly into the night.

Monday
An Atlantic frontal system will sweep quickly eastwards across Britain, bringing a spell of heavy rain to most places, probably reaching the south-east in the afternoon. Blustery winds, risk of gales around exposed coasts and hills. Clusters of showers that follow will turn increasingly wintry over northern hills, perhaps later to lower levels in Scotland as colder air returns. Briefly milder in the south, highs 10 or 11C, but nearer 5 to 7C in the north.
