Patchy rain in west
Brighter east

Tuesday
Areas of cloud affecting Southwest England and southern Ireland on Tuesday morning will be bringing a few patchy outbreaks of rain. Northern England, Southern Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland will also have cloud and outbreaks of rain. Brighter and drier in between these areas, and also brighter with mostly dry weather in central and northern Scotland. The rain fades from many areas this afternoon, although it may continue in western Scotland, falling as sleet and snow on hills. Brighter elsewhere with some sunny spells, best east and south. Highs at 6 to 8C.

Tuesday Night
Rain dies away from northwest Scotland. A ridge of high pressure builds bringing dry weather for most with clear skies. Winds fall light and as this happens some mist and fog patches will be forming. A frost by morning for many areas with lows of -2 to 1C.

Wednesday
A ridge of high pressure brings fair and frosty conditions on Wednesday morning with early mist and fog patches clearing. It is then going to be dry and bright, the best sunshine in Scotland and northeast England. An area of low pressure moves into Ireland bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain, some of it heavy, this reaching Wales and southwest England in the afternoon. Highs at 10C in southern Ireland and southwest England, 6 to 8C elsewhere.

Thursday
Low pressure crosses England and Wales into Thursday. This brings rain and stronger winds for a time, a risk of some sleet or wet snow on hills, and perhaps for a time even at low levels in the Midlands and eastern England. Rain, sleet and any snow clears eastwards in the morning. A ridge of high pressure then builds from the west bringing brighter and drier weather with sunny spells. Highs at 5 to 8C.
