An area of rain with some sleet on hills will be passing south through East Anglia, the Midlands and Wales this morning, before clearing southern coasts of England into the early afternoon. Colder, drier and brighter weather follows through England and Wales, although always some wintry showers in northern and western Wales. Windier in northern England with some wintry showers on hills as well as northern coasts of Northern Ireland. Gales in Scotland, severe in the north and east with frequent snow showers here and a risk of blizzards on the hills. A wintry day for Orkney and Shetland with snow showers throughout and severe gales. Winds of 60mph in Scotland. Highs at 3C in northern Scotland, 5C in southern England.

Tuesday Night
Some heavy wintry showers in Scotland and northern England, a risk of blizzards over parts of the Highands and Grampians. Further wintry showers in northwest England and afecting the north and west coasts of Wales and Northern Ireland. Drier but breezy for the rest of England and Wales. Dry too in Ireland. A widespread frost with lows of 1 to -3C.
 

Wednesday
Cold and windy in Scotland with some sleet and snow showers in northern and eastern Scotland, although these tending to ease through the day. A few wintry showers in Northern Ireland and across northern and western coasts of Wales too, although these will be clearing. Dry and chill for other areas with some sunny spells. Fine for Ireland, good spells of sunshine and dry too after a morning frost. Highs at 3 to 6C.

Thursday
A windy day for all with gales to the north and west. A front with rain associated with low pressure west of Ireland will push eastwards across the country, and is likely to bring some snow on the preceding edge over the hills of northern England and Scotland. Drier and brighter yet still windy weather follows from the west although some blustery showers, wintry on hills. Highs 4 to 10C.
