Wednesday
A windy and wet day across much of England and Wales. Heavy periods of rain in the Midlands, Wales and parts of eastern and northern England. Some brighter skies to the south with heavy showers. Mild across southern areas too. Colder air into Scotland and Ireland. Generally dry with a fair amount of cloud. Some showers in northern and eastern Scotland, these turning wintry. The best sunshine will be in western Scotland where it should be staying dry. Highs at 14C in southern England, 4 to 6C in Scotland and northern England as well as Ireland.

Wednesday night
Windy night across Central, eastern and southern England and wet here too. There will be some heavy periods of rain which will slowly be clearing south as the night progresses. A risk of some snow over the high ground of Wales at first. Becoming dry and clear up from the north with a few wintry showers affecting northern and eastern Scotland. A widespread frost across Scotland and northern England as well as parts of Ireland, with icy roads. Lows near -3C in central Scotland, 4C in southern England.

Christmas Eve
High-pressure is to the west of Ireland on Christmas Eve with low pressure East of England. This results in a cold northerly flow affecting all areas. There will be some snow showers affecting eastern coast and hills, with further showers across western parts of Scotland and through western Wales and the coast of Ireland. These will be wintry again. Elsewhere it will be cold but bright with lots of sunshine and brisk northerly wind. Highs at 3 to 5C.

Christmas Day
A ridge of high-pressure built over the UK and Ireland on Christmas Day. Frost will be widespread in the morning but for most of the day should be dry and bright with good spells of sunshine. Increasing cloud across Scotland, northern and western Ireland, Wales and Northwest England in the afternoon. Rain probably affecting western Scotland by evening. A cold day at 3 to 6C.
