Tuesday
A cloudy and damp morning over northern England and southeastern Scotland. This rain slowly fading to the east, clearing southeast Scotland by late morning. Elsewhere it is likely to be drier with some bright spells coming through in England and parts of Wales as well as Northern Ireland. Cloud and a few spots of drizzle in western Wales. This afternoon looks set to be dry overall with some bright or sunny spells, the best of them in the east. Thicker cloud and stronger winds reaching Ireland and western Scotland in the afternoon, together with heavy periods of rain. Highs at 7 to 12C.

Tuesday Night
A windy night with severe gales becoming widespread over the UK, gusts over 70mph in Scotland, Wales and western England. Heavy rain in western Scotland and Ireland, and becoming increasingly wet in Wales. Drier in eastern and southern parts of England, staying windy here too. Lows near 5 to 11C.
 

Wednesday
A windy day as a front moves steadily eastwards. This brings heavy rain in southern Scotland, northern England and Wales as well as southwest England. Flooding problems are likely to get worse again as the front passes through. Cooler with sunshine and showers in Scotland, these turning wintry on Hills. Cloud and some outbreaks of rain in Ireland. Drier in East Anglia and southeast England, the rain arriving here by evening. Highs at 6 to 14C.

New Years Eve
A west ot southwest flow across the UK and Ireland on Thursday. Rain clears east on Thursday morning. Showers in northern and western Scotland, drier elsewhere with some bright or sunny spells. A further front passing east during the day bringing a band of rain trough all areas, then turning drier to the west again later, although with scattered showers. Highs at 6 to 10C.
