Wednesday A very wet spell of weather in southwest Scotland today, the rain continuing here throughout. Rain continues in northwest England, Wales and southwest England, with a further band of rain spreading north through Ireland in the afternoon. Flooding is again possible in the west. Drier in eastern England and very windy here with widespread severe gales. Becoming wet in central and eastern areas, conditions turning drier although with a few showers in the west. Drier in northwest Scotland with some bright or sunny spells forming here. Tops at 7 to 12C.
Wednesday Night Rain and cloud in the east of the country this evening, this clearing into the North Sea through the early hours. A few showers on western coasts but for most it is going to be drier with some clearer spells. Lows at 3 to 6C.
New Years Eve Dry with sunny spells to start the day for most. A trough of showers passing over Ireland in the morning, reaching western Scotland, western England and Wales in the early afternoon, these heavy at times. This showery band of rain then reaching eastern Scotland and eastern England late afternoon and early evening, with drier weather returning back to the west later. Highs near 6 to 9C.
New Years Day A ridge of high pressure building through the country on Friday. It should be a dr day in much of England, Wales and Scotland, perhaps with some mist or fog patches at first. A deepening area of low pressure west of Ireland bringing some cloud and rain into Ireland with gale force winds developing. Highs at a chilly 4 to 8C.
